About the artist: Russell’s practice is about developing an awareness of one’s inner world, made up of thoughts and feeling. In the right circumstances the process itself is conducive to entering a state of flow, where following intuition and using mistakes to take the work in new directions are integral. In her paintings she is representing moments in time inspired by landscapes or the female form. She plays with abstraction, problem-solving through composition, colour selection and line. Generally working in acrylic, Russell is currently exploring ways that allow her to play around with the application and materiality of paint.
